Saint-Robert

Limousin

Built around a monastery of Benedictine monks disciples of Saint Robert, the village was named after him.

The village stands on the spot of an ancient merovingian city. On the plateau of Saint Robert, a few remains of a wall circle the monastery. The rich stone houses, mansions with turrets indicate that they belonged once to important people. The 12th fortified church has kept its structure nearly intact. A life-size wooden statue of Christ reminds us of the intensity of faith in the Middle Ages.
