Brittany

Brittany will charm you by its rocky and precipitous coastline, its small islands along the coast, its culture, its hinterland, etc.

Rennes, capital of Brittany region, boasts architectural urban and rural heritage. Visited for its 2000-year old history, Rennes is a charming city full of interesting sights and places to visit. Together with Dinan and Vannes, Rennes features the oldest examples of civil timber-framed architecture. Strolling in the city, you will discover the old quarter of the city.

At 75 kilometers from Rennes, you might visit Saint-Malo. As you walk the 2 kilometres (1.5 miles) of ramparts that surround the walled town, you will admire the breathtaking views of the bay. The picturesque streets invite you to roam and stroll in this Corsair Town. At low tide from the beach of Bon Secours, you might reach the “Grand Be”, islet where the writer François René de Chateaubriand rests. Close to Saint-Malo, you might discover Saint-Suliac, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France.

The Emerald Coast invites you to discover other treasures such as Cancale, picturesque little fishing port, Pointe du Grouin with a superb view over Mont Saint Michel bay, Dinard and its manor houses and Frehel Cape. Then, discover Dinan, this charming City of Art and History is overlooking the river, La Rance. Surrounded by its ramparts, the city hides many treasures: belfry, churches and convents, Duchesse Anne castle, timbered houses, narrow streets, Jerzual street and its many craft shops, etc.

Along the Northern coast, you will marvel at the pink granite coast between Brest and Rennes with Perros-Guirec, Ploumanac’h, the 7 islets (a true heaven for birds), etc. Close to Saint-Brieuc, you will enjoy Brehat island, Paimpol and the Goelo coast .

In the western part of Brittany, the Finistère invites you to discover its natural heritage: Crozon peninsula, Pointe du Raz (narrow, rocky outcrop stands 70m tall above the water), the Bay of Audierne, the Rias and in the hinterland the Natural regional Park. The cultural heritage is also fantastic: Concarneau, Quimper and some of the Most Beautiful Villages in France: Locronan, Sein and Le Faou.

Along the coast or hinterland, Morbihan offers you many natural and cultural sites: Carnac and its megaliths, Vannes, Quiberon (departure point for Hoëdic and Belle-Ile), La Gacilly and its craftsmen, etc.

All along the coast, you might take the boat and visit some of the islands: Bréhat, Molène, Ouessant, Groix, Belle-Ile, Hoëdic, etc.

Brittany is also famous for its local gastronomy: crêpes, galettes, kouign aman, kig ha farz, far breton, oysters of Cancale, and of course cider to appreciate and taste those specialities.
